Do you want to hear those compliments and glow with joy? Do you want to really FEEL younger and healthier? I will give you 10 easy steps to follow, to look 10 years younger. Not just look, but also be younger and healthier. This is not a shortcut. This is not a trick. This is a way of life practiced by me. I am letting you in on my secret. Are you ready to get younger? Read on… 1.Contrary to what we believe, our brain is working hard when we are sleeping. A lot of house cleaning goes on in our body. Our memory is reinforced, muscles built, new cells are regenerated and hormones are regulated. If you don’t get enough sleep at night, your hunger hormones will be irregular and you will tend to eat more sugary food and gain weight. You will be less alert and make bad decisions. Poor sleep = poor life No time to sleep? I hear you. You just wanted to check your emails before going to bed and found yourself taking a personality quiz on ‘If you were a dog, what breed would you be?’, at 2am. Didn’t you? However busy you are, plan strategically to include enough sleep in your schedule. Good sleep is one of the pillars of staying healthy and youthful. 2.Colorful foods are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The phytochemicals present in richly colored vegetables and fruits improve memory, heart and bone health, and lower the risk of cancer. When you do the grocery shopping, make sure your cart is quite colorful. Every meal should have at least three different colors. Between meals, snack on fruits and nuts. Do not buy cartons of soda, candies and chips to stock at home. Instead, treat yourself to junk food occasionally when you are eating out. That limits your junk food intake. 3. NEVER skip a breakfast. It sends your body into survival mode and starts burning the body fat. Isn’t it wonderful that your body fat is burned without doing anything? No. It is not. Because there is a catch! Since your body is in survival mode, the next time you eat anything, it will be stored as fat in your body, because your body doesn’t know when it will get food again. So you will end up with more fat than you started with. You don’t want that to happen. 4. Can you tell me one thing that boosts stamina, builds muscles and flexibility, keeps your mind sharp, helps you lose weight, makes your skin radiant, balances sex hormone levels, relieves stress and makes you happy? Exercise. Exercise is the fountain of youth. Let us see how. Telomeres are the DNA at the end of the chromosomes, like the plastic tips on the end of shoe laces. Each time the cell divides, the telomeres get shorter. When the telomeres get too short, the cells cannot divide anymore and they die. Telomeres are in a way, the biological clock. Studies have shown that people who exercise regularly have longer telomeres than inactive people who are up to 10 years younger. The benefits of exercise are so many, I am going to turn off my computer and have a gym session before I continue… 5. Neocortex is the recently evolved part of the mammalian brain involved in higher-order brain functions. PET scans have shown that, asking questions stimulates the neocortex part of the brain. Do not let your child-like curiosity die. Remember that we are all animals, still evolving. Learning is a basic necessity to survive. Keep asking questions and keep widening your knowledge. Learn something new every day. It could be anything. A new word to your vocabulary, how to fix things around your house, how to cook your favorite Italian dish, how to play a game, how a new device/app works, and the list is endless. 6. One of the quickest ways to accelerate aging is, drinking alcohol. It dehydrates your body, resulting in broken capillaries in your face, premature wrinkles and hair loss. But that is only on the surface. Have you applied a disinfectant on an open wound? You know how it burns. Because alcohol is an irritant. When it enters your body, it burns everything from your mouth to all your internal organs, including heart and brain. That causes irreversible aging on your insides. If you really have to drink, moderation is the key. Drink water and eat food between drinks. 7. Happy people don’t seem to age at all. Ever wonder how some people are always bouncing with joy for no apparent reason? Those are the ones that never age. What keeps them happy? There is a simple answer. Live in the present moment. Don’t let your unpleasant drive in morning rush hour traffic ruin your day. Do not keep worrying about paying your bills and making ends meet. For one minute, imagine that you have no worries at all and that you are the happiest person on earth. Keep practicing this one minute exercise several times a day and it will become a habit soon. Without any effort, you will realize that you are happy, just the way you are and satisfied with what you have. Happiness is attractive and contagious. You will soon find yourself surrounded by attractive and happy people. What more can you ask for? 8. When we were kids, we spoke our heart without inhibitions. As we grew older, we picked up bad habits along the way. The good news is, we can reverse that. Replace the pride, jealousy and anger with humility, contentment and forgiveness. Appreciating the good in the world around us, boosts our mood. It also bounces back on us and amplifies the positivity. Catch someone doing good today. Praise them wholeheartedly. Not a general comment. Be specific. ‘I admire how you keep your desk/room clean’, ‘I like how your shade of lipstick goes well with your clothes’. It puts a genuine smile on your face, which can make you more beautiful than a facelift could. 9. The wisest investment is, investing in yourself. Not investing a ton of money, but investing time and effort. Several times, I have based my first impression about someone on the appearance of their fingernails. It doesn’t have to be professionally manicured, but it is a must to be neatly trimmed and clean. I wouldn’t be very eager to associate myself with someone, who has body odor, bad breath and decayed teeth. Imagine someone wearing crisp clothes, smelling good, smiling with perfect teeth, clean and well kempt hair, and clear skin, shakes your hand firmly. You will be impressed. Incorporate a personal grooming routine into your everyday life. Little hygiene tasks that you do regularly goes a long way in maintaining a youthful glow. Do not go to bed without brushing, flossing or removing makeup. Moisturize twice a day. Deodorize, shave/epilate, exfoliate your skin, scrub your feet, massage your face and hair, and don’t forget to visit your dentist regularly. 10. Take a look at your wardrobe. Is it full of boring, oversized clothes that look more or less all the same? Do a favor and stop telling yourself that you are of certain age and you have to dress ‘accordingly’. Buy clothes in vibrant colors and patterns, and different styles. Try different combinations. Accessorize with delicate jewelry, trendy sunglasses, belts, scarves and bags. Indulge yourself in a variety of shoes. Do not try to look like a teenager. Rather, try to wear a variety of clothes that pleases you.
Trying to hide your body with baggy, shapeless clothes will only make you look wider and older. Opt for fitting clothes that are not too tight either. Implement the above strategies in your everyday life and you will see results right away!
